US Supreme Court sends North Dakota tribal redistricting case back for review

The two tribes and three tribal citizens filed suit against the North Dakota Legislature in 2022, arguing that its new legislative map shifted district lines in a way that diluted tribal representation, under Section 2 of the federal Voting Rights Act, which outlaws racially discriminatory voting practices.

Investment treaties are undermining the global energy transition

Globally, 2 gigatonnes (Gt) of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) of potential annual greenhouse gas emissions is protected via investment treaties. The G7 is responsible for protecting 50% of these emissions abroad. Investment treaties with investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) provisions are misaligned with international efforts to achieve net zero emissions.
