The following is a compilation of the on-line toolkits we have found to be most useful. Your location relative to the location of the change you seek to cause will shape your group’s advocacy approach.

If you are directly impacted by the adverse conduct you are disputing, then you have nearly avenue immediately available to you, since you can speak from firsthand, that is “lived” experience.

If you are not directly impacted, then it is extremely important to research and become familiar with the perspectives of those communities that are in fact directly impacted. Learning to stand behind these frontline communities is key to mounting an effective effort.

The globalization of our institutions has played a significant role in the evisceration of each person’s identity as a “maker of change.” While the following may seem daunting for beginners, the struggle is part and parcel of the journey. Most journeys are best experienced with company. Community solidarity is the foundation of every successful advocacy campaign when engaging powerful actors. Collective action is much stronger than individuals acting separately. Please share and discuss the following with your community.

This module is applicable to all forms of advocacy.

This module is drafted from the point of view of a local “front line” community with resources to find and establish non-local allies.

This module includes two toolkits: one, to protect federal funding for lower-income units, including for tribal populations; and second, to advocate for policies to produce affordable homes. To learn about the most pressing administrative proposals, please visit our Housing Justice page HERE.
